When Pochaev meets Santo Nino
Just now, for the 460th anniversary of the founding of the Santo Nino Church, my icon of the Pochaev icon of the Mother of God visited the Santo Nino shrine on April 28.
Magellan's CrossThe original image of Santo Nino with my icon of the Pochaev icon of the Mother of God Me with the iconThe story of the Pochaev icon is that on August 5, (July 23 in the Julian Calendar) 1675, a group of Ottoman Turks tried to invade a monastery where the original icon of the Pochaev was. When the priest invoked the Blessed Virgin Mary, immediately, the Virgin appeared in the sky which frightened the Turks. The Turks tried to fire arrows at the Virgin, but the arrows bounced back and the Turks were hit by the arrows.
As for the Santo Nino image, more than 460 years ago, the image believed to have been given by Magellan in 1521 was rediscovered on April 28, 1565 by a soldier of the army of conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. It was also kept in the Redemptorist church in Cebu during the World War II and on April 28, 1965, the image was canonically crowned. It is also my patron saint.
I also prayed for the restoration of the church when I put the Pochaev icon with the original image of the Santo Nino. The prayer was composed by myself.
Santo Nino de Cebu, have mercy on us!
Our Lady of Pochaev, pray for us!
