Catalina ang bulahan (Catalina the Blessed) is a poem about the heroine Catalina Santos (1655 - 1727) regarding her heroic deeds of defending 17th century Cebu from Moro raids. It invokes her fight against the Moro Ali Pagtuga in 1670, and as well as invoking her against the modernist West controlling the Philippines. It compares her with heroes like Datu Daya of Bantayan, a pre-colonial Datu of Cebu who fought against Moro pirates in the medieval era, as well as Dona Jimena, the wife of the knight El Cid, and Queen Isabella I the Catholic. This poem was composed by Antonio Rubi for the feast of St. James

Opening verse: O Santiago, O Santiago,

1.     Catalina ang bulahan, Bulahang Sugbuanon,

Siya nga nakig-away kang Ali Pagtuga,

Bulahan ka nga nakig-away batok sa magalong Moro.

Kung wala ka, ang yuta sa Sugbo dili mahimong gawasnon


Refrain:

Ikaw, O alagad sa Dios,

sama kang Dona Jimena ug Dona Isabella.

Gipalaya nimo ang

among yuta gikan sa mga Moro sama ni Datu Daya.

Ilalom sa bandila sa atong mga katigulangan, luwasa kami pag-usab,

O Santiago, Santiago y Cierra, O Santiago!

Molukso ka sa imong kabayo, ug pakig-away pag-usab sa magalo!

Blessed is Catalina, Blessed Cebuana,

She who fought against Ali Pagtuga,

Blessed are you who fought against the marauding Moro.

If it were not for you, the land of Sugbo would not be free.

are like Doña Jimena and Doña Isabella.

You freed our land from the Moors like King Daya.

O Catalina, with your sword,
